The Grand Canyon University men’s lacrosse team claimed the 2017 Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association Division I national championship by defeating Chapman 12-8 on May 13 in Orange, Calif. The Lopes won the final 13 games of their 16-1 season with a potent offense and a stingy defense. GCU sophomore attacker Cam Wengreniuk was named MCLA Division I National Championship Most Valuable Player. Wengreniuk and senior midfielder Austin Ekeroth each scored four goals in the championship game. The Lopes have won two of the past three MCLA Division I championships.
