Grand Canyon University and GCU Club Sports have announced that the school has officially parted ways with Manny Rapkin. Rapkin spent eight years with the GCU Men’s Lacrosse program – the last seven as head coach, and won two national titles during that time.
Jeff Guy will take over as the team’s interim head coach effective immediately. It will be Guy’s second tour of duty as the Lopes’ Head Coach, since he oversaw the program for the 2011 season before departing to Princeton University, and eventually became the head coach at the University of Dallas for two seasons before returning to GCU to become the assistant in 2015, helping lead the Lopes to the first of two Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association National Championships over the next three years.
Guy’s first order of business as interim head coach happens later tonight when several greats of GCU Men’s Lacrosse’s past return to campus to face off against the 2019 squad in the annual GCU Men’s Lacrosse Alumni Game. The first faceoff is scheduled for 7 pm at Prescott Field on the GCU campus, and admission is free.
The Lopes will open the season Feb. 22 in San Luis Obispo, California against the Santa Clara University Broncos.
