Practice makes perfect.
This past weekend, the Grand Canyon University Spirit Club performed their competition routine at an exhibition hosted at Dobson High School. The exhibition provided the Lopes the necessary feedback the team needed in order to prepare for the upcoming All Things Cheer (ATC) Spectacular Championships, the team’s first competition of the spring season, this coming weekend.
“The routine went extremely well,” said Lopes’ junior Jordan Elmore. “We had a lot of nerves and uneasiness when we first started warming up, but once we got on the floor, we showed exactly what our team is capable of.”
The Lopes can now compete in the ATC Championships with new confidence, moves and stunts. “We are preparing for the ATC Spectacular by vamping up the routine and cleaning up parts that can use some possible changes,” said Elmore. “Most of the routine will stay the same, but in order to add the All-Star element, we are adding some more exciting aspects.”
The ATC Championships will host teams from around the nation who will compete for five At Large Summit Bids, five At Large D2 Summit Bids and two At Large Dance Summit Bids. Teams that receive the At Large Summit Bids will have the opportunity to compete at the Summit Championships at Walt Disney World in Orlando, Florida this May.
“The team is definitely more prepared for this weekend’s competition because we know what to expect and what to work on for this week,” said Elmore. “This competition is going to be a great one for the GCU Spirit Club!”
