2nd straight weekend of inactivity doesn’t harm Lopes’ national standing
By: Jim Howell/GCU Club Sports Information Director
For the third straight week, the Grand Canyon University Men’s Rugby team is ranked 15th in the DIA College Rugby Top 20 Poll. The Lopes have now spent seven straight weeks in the national poll, inching from the No. 19 spot they had when they achieved their first ranking in late January. The No. 15 ranking remains the highest spot the Lopes have enjoyed since moving up to DI over the summer.
The Lopes’ national ranking has showed the same amount of activity as the team has had in the last three weeks: none at all. Since upsetting then-15th-ranked Utah on the road back on February 17, the Lopes’ schedule has only allowed them to square off against each other in practice, but not against other competition in a match. That idle status will finally change a week from tomorrow on Wednesday, March 14, when they continue the road trip in northern California against No. 19 UC-Davis. The Lopes’ only remaining game on their home schedule happens Monday, March 26, when they host Cal Poly at GCU Stadium on the GCU campus.
The entire DIA College Rugby Rankings for this week are listed below:
|1||St. Mary’s (CA)||1|
|12||Notre Dame College (OH)||12|
|14||San Diego State||13|
