Lopes to put highest ranking ever on line tonight vs. No. 19 UC Davis

The Grand Canyon University Men’s Rugby team is ranked 14th in the D1A College Rugby Top 20 Poll. It’s a move up of one spot from the No. 15 national ranking the Lopes have held the past three weeks, which means this week’s is the highest national ranking they’ve enjoyed since the move upward to D1 this past summer. The Lopes have now spent eight straight weeks in the national poll after beginning their climb from No. 19 in late January.
The Lopes have been able to benefit from the losses of those teams above them while not being on the field themselves, since they haven’t played a match since their February 17th upset of then-15th-ranked Utah on the road. However, that inactivity is set to change in a matter of hours as the Lopes finally conclude their three-game road trip beginning tonight and then finishing Saturday morning with matchups in northern California. The Lopes will face unranked Santa Clara University in a 10 am matchup Saturday, but tonight are in Davis, California, to face off against the 19th-ranked University of California-Davis Aggies at 6 pm. The Lopes’ only remaining game on the regular season schedule after that brings them back home for a 5 pm showdown against Cal Poly on March 26 at GCU Stadium on the GCU campus.
The entire D1A College Rugby Rankings for this week are listed below:
