GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Men’s Rugby team is ranked 18th in the DIA College Rugby Top 20 Poll. It’s the third straight week that the Lopes have been nationally ranked since moving up to DI over the summer, and it’s a move up of one spot from the No. 19 ranking they’ve enjoyed the last two weeks.
The Lopes earned the rise in the poll on the heels of their 2nd-best offensive performance of the season, taming crosstown rival Arizona State, 43-15, at GCU Stadium last Friday. The win put them over the .500 mark (3-2 overall) have faced two nationally ranked opponents in their first two weeks at the DI level, and have split the two games. The Lopes were one of just five teams in the poll that saw their ranking improve.
The road for GCU now gets harder and longer. They’ll start a three-game road trip next Saturday, February 17, by facing their fourth nationally-ranked opponent in the last five matches, No. 12 University of Utah, in St. George, at 1 pm. The Lopes only have one more match on their home schedule: Monday, March 26, when they host Cal Poly on the GCU campus.
