2nd poll that places defending national champion Lopes at No. 1 going into 2018 season

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Men’s Lacrosse team has been ranked No. 1 in the Nike/U.S. Lacrosse Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Preseason Rankings for the 2018 season. The announcement comes just a month after the Lopes were also named No. 1 in the MCLA Preseason Coaches’ Poll. They’ve also been named the preseason favorites to repeat as 2018 champs of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference. The Lopes lead a contingent of five SLC teams ranked in the MCLA Top 20 (Chapman is ranked 2nd, Arizona State is 8th, Cal-Santa Barbara is 16th, and Concordia-Irvine is 20th).
It’s not a surprise that GCU and Chapman are ranked 1st and 2nd, respectively, since they were the last two teams standing for the MCLA National Championship last May. The Lopes snagged their 2nd national title in the last three years with a 12-8 win in the title game. It was the Lopes’ 13th consecutive win-a streak they will try to build on when they commence the 2018 regular season at Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, California, a month from today on February 23.
The Lopes open their home slate at GCU Stadium on Friday night, March 2 at 7pm against the University of Georgia. Admission is FREE.
