January 31, 2018

The Grand Canyon University Men’s Lacrosse team has been ranked No. 1 in the Under Armour Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Preseason Coaches’ Poll for the 2018 season. It’s the second time in as many weeks that the Lopes have topped a preseason poll after earning the No. 1 spot in last week’s Nike/U.S. Lacrosse Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Preseason Rankings. The Lopes-who were also picked to win the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference this season by the coaches in October-are one of four SLC teams ranked in the MCLA Top 20 (Chapman is ranked 2nd, Arizona State is NO. 7, and UC-Santa Barbara is No. 15).

The Lopes’ lofty ranking will get tested immediately as GCU will open the 2018 regular season campaign facing three ranked teams in their first four games. The Lopes-who won their 2nd national championship in the last three years last May by defeating Chapman-will open up 2018 play February 23 on the road against No. 10 Cal Poly. Their home opener happens just over a month from now against the University of Georgia on Friday, March 2. Game time is 7 pm at GCU Stadium and admission is FREE.
