The Grand Canyon University Men’s Lacrosse team has been ranked No. 1 in the first Under Armour Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Coaches’ Poll for the 2018 regular season. The Lopes-who were the preseason No. 1 in two different polls this winter-are now the highest-ranked of six Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) teams ranked in the MCLA Top 25 (Chapman is ranked 2nd, Arizona State is up to 5th, UC-Santa Barbara remains 15th, and both Concordia-Irvine (19th) and Arizona (25th) enter the poll this week). The Lopes stayed atop the poll after grabbing the top spot in the preseason poll-despite the fact that GCU was the only team in the top 5 yet to play a regular season game.
The Lopes’ idle status will change in a matter of hours as they head to San Luis Obispo, California, to take on 11th-ranked California Polytechnic State University tomorrow (Friday) night at 8 pm (Arizona time). The Mustangs are the first of three nationally ranked team that will dot the Lopes’ schedule in the first four weeks. The defending national champion Lopes will break the seal on the home side of their 2018 schedule on Friday, March 2, as they host the University of Georgia at GCU Stadium. Game time is 7 pm, and admission is FREE.
