For the second consecutive week, the Grand Canyon University Men’s Lacrosse team is ranked No. 21 in the latest Under Armour Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Coaches’ Poll. The Lopes have ranged anywhere between the 9th and 21st position in every poll this year, and they have now been ranked in the last 80 straight MCLA Polls (dating back to Week 7 of the 2013 season). The Lopes remain one of five SLC teams ranked in the MCLA Top 20 (Arizona State is 4th, Chapman is 5th, Concordia-Irvine is 9th, and Arizona is 13th).
With their three-game losing streak snapped with an important 13-9 victory last Thursday night in their regular season at UNLV, the Lopes now embark on the quest for the automatic berth to nationals if they win the 2019 Southwestern Lacrosse Conference Playoffs. Their journey begins this Saturday, April 20, in Tucson as the 3rd-seeded Lopes will face off against 2nd-seeded University of Arizona in a 1 pm matchup. A win Saturday sends GCU to Carlsbad, California next Friday night, April 26, for a showdown against No. 5 Chapman University.
