For the second straight week, the Grand Canyon University Men’s Lacrosse team is ranked No. 7 in the latest Under Armour Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Coaches’ Poll. It’s the 47th straight poll (since the 2015 season’s preseason poll) that they’ve been ranked in the MCLA Top 10. The Lopes remain one of five Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) teams ranked in the MCLA Top 25 (Chapman is 1st, Concordia-Irvine is 9th, Arizona State is 14th, and UC-Santa Barbara is 21st).
Four out of those five SLC teams is still alive in the SLC Playoffs, which now move into Championship Weekend starting Friday. The Lopes-who are the No. 1 seed from the SLC South Division-will finally see their first postseason action at 7:30 pm Friday when they square off against No. 9 Concordia-Irvine, who reached the semifinals when they eliminated No. 21 UCSB last weekend. The winner of that matchup will take on the winner of the other Friday semifinal game between No. 1 Chapman and No. 14 Arizona State in Sunday’s championship game at 1:45 pm. All games will be held at La Costa Canyon High School in Carlsbad, California, with the SLC Champion earning an automatic qualifying bid to the MCLA National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, May 7 through 12.
