The Grand Canyon University Men’s Lacrosse team has been ranked No. 9 in the 2019 Under Armour Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Preseason Division I Coaches Poll. It’s the second time in the month of January that the Lopes have been ranked in the top 10 in a preseason poll after landing at No. 10 in the Inside Lacrosse Preseason Rankings four weeks ago. The Lopes are one of four SLC teams ranked in the MCLA Top 20 (Chapman is ranked 1st, Concordia-Irvine is 11th, and Arizona State is 13th).
The Lopes will have plenty of chances to inch closer to the top of the rankings, since six of the 11 opponents on their 2019 regular season schedule join them in the preseason rankings, and that includes a pair of teams also in the MCLA Top 10 (the Lopes will host No. 7 Colorado on February 28, then No. 3 BYU on March 9). The Lopes – who are gunning for their 3rd national title in the last five years – commence their 2019 season this Sunday, February 3 as they host Santa Clara University in a non-conference battle. Game time is at noon Sunday at Prescott Field on the GCU campus, and admission is FREE.
