Lopes look for upset of No. 3 Concordia-Irvine on road Saturday

The Grand Canyon University Men’s Lacrosse team is ranked No. 16 in the latest Under Armour Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Coaches’ Poll. It’s the slide of just one spot from last week’s poll, and it’s consecutive poll No. 75 (dating back to Week 7 of the 2013 season) that the Lopes have been nationally ranked by the MCLA. The Lopes are now one of six SLC teams ranked in the MCLA Top 20 (Concordia-Irvine is up to 3rd, Arizona State is 4th, Chapman is 5th, Arizona is new in the poll at No. 17, and Southern California is 18th).
The Lopes just completed their season-opening six-game homestand – one that saw them face six opponents who have all been in the poll during that time. Their first road test of the season this Saturday, though, will present GCU’s toughest challenge yet, since they’ll face the 3rd-ranked team in the nation. The Lopes and Concordia-Irvine are no strangers to each other, since Saturday’s game will be a rematch of last year’s SLC Semifinals. The Lopes will travel to Irvine, California, for a 3:30PM tilt this Saturday, March 16, then return home for their lone matchup during Spring Break next Tuesday, March 19 when they host unranked Utah Valley University. Opening face-off between the Lopes and UVU is scheduled for 1PM next Tuesday at Prescott Field, and admission is FREE.
