GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Men’s Lacrosse team has been ranked No. 1 in the Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Preseason Rankings for the 2018 season. The announcement comes just two months after the Lopes were named the preseason favorite to repeat as the champions of the Southwestern Lacrosse Conference this season. The Lopes lead a contingent of five SLC teams ranked in the MCLA Top 20 (Chapman is ranked 3rd, Cal Poly is 8th, Arizona State is 10th, and Concordia-Irvine is 19th).
The Lopes will enter the season carrying the momentum of last year’s season-ending 13-game winning streak, which culminated with a win over Chapman that gave the Lopes their second national championship in the last three years. The Lopes start up their 2018 regular season with a huge road test February 23. That’s when they’ll travel to San Luis Obispo, California, to face off against the 8th-ranked Mustangs of Cal Poly.
