The Grand Canyon University Men’s Lacrosse team is ranked No. 9 in the final Under Armour Men’s Collegiate Lacrosse Association (MCLA) Division I Coaches’ Poll. While it may be a drop of two spots from their No. 7 ranking in the final regular season poll last month, it’s still the 48th straight time (since the 2015 season’s preseason poll) that they’ve been ranked in the MCLA Top 10. The Lopes finish as one of five Southwestern Lacrosse Conference (SLC) teams ranked in the MCLA Top 25 (Chapman finished 2nd, Concordia-Irvine 11th, Arizona State 14th, and UC-Santa Barbara 19th).
The Lopes finished off the 2018 campaign with their fourth consecutive appearance (and fifth in the last six seasons) at the MCLA National Championships in Salt Lake City, Utah, squaring off eventual national semifinalist Brigham Young University (who finished No. 3 in the final poll). The Lopes’ season was highlighted by regular season wins over four teams that also finished in the rankings: No. 19 UC-Santa Barbara, No. 16 Georgia, No. 14 Arizona State, and No. 12 (and national tournament qualifier) Boston College. The Lopes finished with a 9-4 record overall.
