“We’ve added skill, athleticism, size, and leadership with this freshmen class,” said Lopes’ Head Coach Jeff Guy. “15 of our 18 incoming freshmen were captains of their high school teams.”

The Grand Canyon University Lacrosse team has added immense roster depth to the tune of 18 freshmen recruits joining the Lopes’ ranks. Needless to say, with the amount of recruits brought in and their numerous leadership accolades, Guy did more than his due diligence during his recruiting travels this off-season.

The freshman class includes seven midfielders, four defenders, two goalies, one long stick midfielder, and two attackmen as well as two players that play both attackman and midfielder. A majority of the recruiting was done on the west coast with 10 out of the 18 recruits hailing from California. Here is a complete list of the 2021-22 Lopes’ freshmen recruiting class:

Even with the strong level of talent that this class brings, Guy and the coaching staff know that team chemistry is just as important as on-field skill.

“It is certainly important that we build a strong team chemistry within our program,” said Guy. “It is not something that is going to happen overnight, or early on. It is something that we are going to continually work towards building.”

The Lopes plan to use their preseason programs to get the returners familiar with their new teammates and vice versa.

“Our fall ball and strength and conditioning program is a great way to get started with building that team bond,” said Guy.
