Holiday inactivity keeps Lopes in Top 10 for 16th time in last 17 polls

The Grand Canyon University Men’s Ice Hockey Division II team is officially ranked No. 8 in the latest American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) West Poll for the second consecutive week. It’s the 4th straight poll (and the 16th time in the last 17 polls) that the Lopes find themselves in the ACHA Top 10. The Lopes have now been in every ACHA West D2 Poll dating back to the first poll of the 2017-18 season last November.
The Lopes’ inactivity for the semester break (their last game was a 10-3 victory over No. 18 Weber State University on December 2) hasn’t hurt them in the last couple of polls – mainly due to the inactivity of their fellow ranked teams. While teams in the other three ACHA Polls (Central, Southeast and Northeast) moved around due to late-December matchups, all 20 teams in the West Poll were idle the past week, prompting an identical poll lineup from last week.
The Lopes will enjoy one more week off before returning to campus next week to prepare for the 2019 side of their season schedule. The Lopes – who’ve only lost once in their last 6 games – return to ACHA action with a two-game weekend series in Tucson against the University of Arizona January 4 and 5. Their next home games happen Friday and Saturday, January 11 and 12 at AZ Ice Arcadia (38th Street and Thomas Road in Phoenix) against Arizona State University. The puck drops at 6:30 pm both nights.
