Recent losing skid drops Lopes out of ACHA Top 10 for first time in a year

The Grand Canyon University Men’s Ice Hockey Division II team is officially ranked in the latest American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) West Poll. The Lopes are ranked No. 13 in the poll, a drop of four spots from their No. 9 ranking in last week’s season-opening poll. While it’s the first time that GCU has dropped out of the ACHA Top 10 since November 8, 2017, it’s still the 13th straight poll that the Lopes have been represented in the poll. The slide in the poll comes from the Lopes’ recent six-game losing streak, which they just snapped last night, defeating Utah Valley University, 6-0, in the opening game of the Beehive Showcase in Provo, Utah.
The Lopes-who have already played four games this season against teams currently ranked in the poll-will now have a chance to play three more ranked teams in the span of two days this weekend as they continue play at the Beehive Showcase. The Lopes will continue the four-games-in-four-days weekend later this afternoon with a matchup against No. 8 Williston State College, then will clash against No. 6 Dakota College tomorrow before finishing out the weekend against none other than top-ranked University of Mary Sunday morning. The Lopes’ next home game happens Saturday, December 1, when they face yet another ranked team in No. 16 Weber State University to begin a two-game weekend series. The puck drops at 6:30 pm that night at AZ Ice Arcadia (38th Street and Thomas Road in Phoenix).
