Lopes’ semester break inactivity drops them from highest ranking ever in previous poll

The Grand Canyon University Men’s Ice Hockey Division II team is officially ranked No. 8 in the latest American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) West Poll. While it’s a drop of one notch from their highest ranking ever for the program of No. 7 in last week’s poll, it’s still the 16th consecutive poll that the Lopes have been ranked – all but one of those rankings in the ACHA Top 10.
The Lopes’ inactivity – combined with the sudden six-spot jump of Williston State College (ND) (a team GCU has already beaten once this season) to No. 6 – prompted GCU’s momentary slide in the rankings. The Lopes have already finished the 2018 side of their schedule, finishing up fall play with three wins and two ties in their final 6 ACHA games of the semester. The Lopes return to ACHA action with a two-game weekend series in Tucson against the University of Arizona January 4 and 5. Their next home games happen Friday and Saturday, January 11 and 12 at AZ Ice Arcadia (38th Street and Thomas Road in Phoenix) against Arizona State University. The puck drops at 6:30 pm both nights.
The entire ACHA West Rankings are listed below:
