GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Men’s Ice Hockey Division II team is officially ranked in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) West Poll. The Lopes are ranked 12th in the poll, which is easily the highest ranking in the two-year history of the program. The Lopes’ sudden rise in the poll was precipitated by impressive back-to-back wins this past weekend over 19th-ranked Long Beach State, 6-2 and 7-3, in southern California. The Lopes are now just three spots behind archrival Arizona State University, and have not only posted a victory over the Sun Devils earlier this year, but also over three other ranked teams: No. 11 Weber State, No. 13 Brigham Young University, and No. 15 Colorado State.
It also sets up a battle of national powers this weekend at the Lopes’ home arena of AZ Ice Peoria when GCU hosts the top team in the poll, Northern Arizona University. The Lopes and IceJacks will square off Friday and Saturday, November 10 and 11, with the puck dropping at 6:30 pm both nights. Admission to both games is FREE.
