Will play unranked North Texas in first round of ACHA West Regionals next week

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that for the seventh straight week, the Grand Canyon University Men’s Ice Hockey Division II team is ranked No. 9 in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Final Regular Season Division II West Poll. It’s also the 10th consecutive week that the Lopes are in the ACHA Top 10 (including their highest-ever ranking of No. 8 eight weeks ago). Despite the bevy of movement amongst teams in the Top 20, the Lopes were one of four teams to maintain their ranking from the last poll two weeks ago.
After closing out their regular season schedule against Division I University of Arizona a week ago, the Lopes now have another week to prepare for the ACHA West Regional Playoffs, which begin next Thursday, February 22 in Ogden, Utah. The 9th-seeded Lopes will battle the University of North Texas, who – despite being unranked in the ACHA poll – come in as the 12th and final seed of the tournament. The Lopes need three wins in three days in Utah to clinch their first-ever trip to the ACHA National Tournament in Columbus, Ohio, March 9-13. Lopes’ fans can follow the team’s trek through the playoffs on the GCU Club Sports Twitter feed (@gcuclubsports) and the GCU Men’s Ice Hockey Twitter feed (@GCUD2MensHockey).
