Lopes come from behind to defeat Texas Tech on final map

After years of consistently making the playoffs and not winning the finals, the Grand Canyon University Esports Rainbow Six (R6) team got over the hump to bring home the Collegiate Esports Association (CEA) Championship after beating Texas Tech University in the finals.
This finals match was no easy one.
Coming off an impressive playoff run in the CEA tournament, the Lopes were confident in their game plan going into the finals. But after losing the first map by a score of 7-5, the Lopes decided to switch their schemes for the remainder of the match. The focus for the second map – defense and countering the aggressive playstyle of Texas Tech – worked as the Lopes won both the second map, 7-5, and the third map, 7-3. These wins sealed the championship victory for the Lopes.
“I was impressed by our mental strength,” said Lopes’ Head Coach Sam Sarlo. “Being able to reset after losing the first map can be hard, but I’m glad we were able to do it.”
Notable plays from the Lopes include a clutch performance by Sarlo and Cole “Suss” Miller, winning a 2v5 battle to close out the final map. Cam “Cash” Taylor and Mason “Klimpse” Best also helped secure the eliminations needed to clinch the title.
