Grand Canyon University has announced that the GCU Club Sports Department has suspended all athletic events for the 2020 spring season due to the ongoing concerns and preparations for the coronavirus pandemic. All practices, competitions and events will be canceled until further notice. This includes any travel for conference, regional and national competitions.
“We realize how important it is to be mindful of the big picture,” said GCU Director of Club Sports Dan Nichols.
The department has also seen several of their competitions get canceled as well, including major events for GCU Men’s Rugby, GCU Club Triathlon, GCU Bowling, GCU Flag Football, GCU Running Club and GCU Men’s Lacrosse. All of those events were either postponed or called off entirely due to COVID-19 concerns.
Campus officials have also announced that all but a few classes on GCU’s Phoenix campus will continue in the online-only mode for the remaining four weeks of the spring semester after Spring Break, which is next week. Students are encouraged to return to their homes to complete their coursework online. However, the GCU campus will remain open for those students who need to stay on campus.
Students and parents are encouraged to visit GCU’s coronavirus web page periodically for additional information and updates.
