Leave it all on the field!
With two seasons under her belt, Lopes’ Club Softball Head Coach Lindsey Collins is ready to take on a third season with a full team of 22 girls. The Lopes ended their season last year with a 5-3-1 record in series matchups, and finished just shy of making the National Club Softball Association (NCSA) Playoffs.
“This will be my third year, but (we have) the strongest team I’ve ever had,” said Collins. “I have ten returning players, and because we didn’t go to the World Series last year, it set a fire in their pants. It’s rubbed off on the whole team, because my veterans have this fire to compete stronger and better. To have ten veterans is already having ten leaders on the team.”
With a new roster and high hopes of a strong season, the team looks to make it to the NCSA World Series with opportunity to improve in all aspects. There is no limit when the tone is set.
“They’ve already set the tone this early on,” said Collins. “I put it all on my returners, and they lead by example. We had our first practice as a team, and everyone stepped it up. Leadership roles are developing, and the newbies are already following that.”
With a new season comes a new mindset and opportunity to excel.
“We struggled with our first game outs,” said Collins. “We did not start off strong in our very first game, and it took us a while to get us going. Our goal is when the game starts, everyone is ready and starting off strong.”
With practices underway and the season beginning, there is only one thing left to say.
“I want them to leave it all on the field and give it their all this season,” said Collins. “That’s all you can ask for.”
