GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Club Men’s Basketball White team is officially ranked in the newest National Club Basketball Association (NCBBA) Poll. The Lopes placed No. 19 in the poll, which is not only their inaugural national ranking of the season, it’s the first time they’ve earned the national pollsters’ respect since receiving a similar No. 19 ranking in the NCBBA Preseason Poll in November of 2018. The Lopes are the only university in either the Mountain or Pacific time zones to earn a national ranking in the current poll.
The Lopes became the only western team among the rankings by taking two of three games from archrival Arizona State University in their season-opening weekend at GCU’s Canyon Activity Center last month. That series not only elevated the Lopes into the NCBBA Top 20, but also dropped the Sun Devils from the No. 11 spot last month to out of the poll (they are the top team in the ‘Also Receiving Votes’ section in the current poll).
Those three games are the only ones to be played so far in Southern Pacific East Conference action, but that will change next week when the two other teams in the SoPac East, GCU Purple and ASU Downtown, will clash for their first three-game conference series Wednesday, Jan. 15 (single game at 8 pm) and Thursday, Jan. 16 (doubleheader starting at 6:30 pm) at the Lopes’ Performance Center on the GCU campus. Admission to the games is FREE. GCU White’s next conference matchup happens Jan. 23 and 24 at ASU Downtown.
The entire NCBBA Rankings are listed below:
|Rank||School||Total Pts||Prev Rank|
|6||East Carolina (NC)||152||6|
|19||Grand Canyon (White)||46||NR|
