SoPac Regional Runner-ups earn preseason national ranking for first time ever
By: Jim Howell/GCU Club Sports Information Director
GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Club Men’s Basketball Division I (Purple) team is officially ranked in the National Club Basketball Association (NCBBA) Preseason Poll. The Lopes placed No. 19 in the poll, which is the first time in their brief two-year history of NCBBA competition that they’ve been represented in the poll prior to the start of the regular season. However, it’s the eleventh straight poll that the Lopes have owned a spot in, dating back to the first regular season poll of the 2017-18 season. The Lopes-who reached the finals of the NCBBA Southern Pacific (SoPac) Regional Championships last season-are one of only two universities in either the Mountain or Pacific time zones to earn a national ranking in the preseason poll (Arizona State is No. 4).
The Lopes will put that new national ranking to the test right away as they begin SoPac East Region play next weekend with a three-game series against ASU. Like the Lopes, who will sport two teams in the SoPac East for the second straight year (GCU Purple and GCU White), the Sun Devils will also have two teams competing in the conference: ASU Downtown and ASU. The Lopes’ Purple team and ASU Downtown will play three games in three days next Friday through Sunday, November 9-11 on the GCU campus. Friday’s 7 pm game will be played at Antelope Gym, while Saturday’s 7:30 pm tipoff and Sunday’s 5 pm series finale will both be played at the Lopes’ Performance Center (LPC). Admission to the games is FREE.

|7||East Carolina (NC)||180|
|9||Coastal Carolina (SC)||142|
|13||St. John’s (NY)||107|
