Lopes’ ranking still enough to allow them to host NCBAA SoPac Regionals this weekend

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Club Men’s Basketball (Purple) team is ranked 11th in the latest National Club Basketball Association (NCBBA) Regular Season Poll. The Lopes actually dropped two spots in the poll due to inactivity (they finished their regular season schedule on February 11), which is the first time that GCU has been ranked out of the NCBBA Top 10 since February 2, when they were also ranked 11. It’s also the eighth straight poll that GCU has been nationally ranked in their first year of NCBBA competition.
Thanks to the high ranking, the Lopes’ Purple team – who was crowned Southern Pacific East Conference Champions last month for the first time ever – has finally earned the right to host the NCBBA SoPac Regional Championships this coming weekend (March 24 and 25) at Antelope Gym on the GCU campus. The Lopes will host fellow conference champions No. 15 UCLA and unranked California Polytechnic University, along with No. 13 Arizona State, who earned the ‘at-large’ bid, in the four-team tournament. GCU will also commence the tournament at 1 pm Saturday afternoon against Cal Poly, with the winner heading to Sunday morning’s 10 am championship game. Details on the tournament – including a full tournament schedule – are available on the men’s basketball page on the GCU Club Sports website.
