By: Jim Howell/GCU Club Sports Information Director

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Club Men’s Basketball (Purple) team is ranked 9th in the latest National Club Basketball Association (NCBBA) Regular Season Poll. The Lopes have risen one spot in each of the last two polls, beginning the month of February in the No. 11 slot, then moving into the top 10 for the first time this season on February 15. It’s also the seventh straight poll that GCU has been nationally ranked in their first year of NCBBA competition.

The Lopes’ Purple team- who was crowned Southern Pacific East Conference Champions last month for the first time ever, are still anxiously awaiting the completion of the regular season for the other teams around their region to determine whether or not GCU will earn the right to host the NCBBA SoPac Regional Championships March 24 and 25. GCU Purple, No. 18 UCLA and California Polytechnic University have already qualified for the tournament (one at-large bid will round out the four-team field). In the meantime, the GCU White team has its own playoffs on the immediate horizon as it heads to Temecula, California on March 3 to compete in the Southern California Select Regional Tournament.
