New director, same tradition.
There has been plenty of changes within the Grand Canyon University Esports program this year with the addition of the new gaming facility, as well as Albert Lee coming into the program as the new coordinator. One thing that remains the same from last year is the culture within the club sport, and their dedication to having fun with as many students as possible.
This Saturday, October 27, GCU Esports will host their second annual Halloween event, “Spookfest,” in their brand-new facility. The festive night out will include games, prize giveaways, food and costumes. More importantly, all GCU students are welcome to join in on the fun- regardless if they are GCU Esports members.
When asked about being a part of his first event as coordinator , Lee deflected the praise to his two student leaders, Justen Johns and Preston Elder, for setting things up.
“I’m taking a ‘behind-the-scenes’ role for this event,” said Lee. “I’ll be there to assist in any way I can, but Justen is going to be hosting the entire event and running it on his own terms. I’m excited to see how it all unfolds.”
For those who are interested in joining GCU Esports, this will be a chance to ingratiate themselves into the program and meet other members.
“Everything can be used freely on a ‘come-and-go’ basis, but people can register with the club if they so choose to,” said Lee. “In addition to the student leaders being there, members from teams such as Overwatch will be participating.”
The Esports Spookfest will be held in the gaming facility on campus which is located in building 57 (STEM), room 223 on the GCU campus. The festivities will begin at 5 pm until 10 pm.
