3rd-place finish at 2018 NCBA DI World Series bolsters Lopes’ first-ever preseason ranking

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Club Baseball team is ranked 3rd in the National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) Rawlings Division I Preseason Poll.  It equals the same ranking that the Lopes held in the final poll of the 2018 season, which is the highest ever in the history of the program.  This is also the first time that the Lopes have earned a spot in the preseason poll.  It’s also the 7th time since the Lopes moved up to the Division I level last year that they’ve earned a spot in the NCBA Top 10.

The top-3 national ranking isn’t surprising – considering the momentum they gained from last year that they’re hoping to capitalize on going forward.  In 2018, the Lopes won their first conference title and their first regional championship, thus earning their first trip to the NCBA World Series in Holly Springs, North Carolina, where they finished 3rd in the nation last May.

The Lopes began their 2019 spring regular season with a 6-5 loss Saturday at Glendale Community College.  They’ll continue their non-conference tuneups later today (Tuesday) with a road game at Mesa Community College.  First pitch is scheduled for 3PM in Mesa.  Their first NCBA weekend series happens Saturday and Sunday, February 16 and 17 against Colorado Mesa University in Phoenix.
