Lopes’ sweep of top 10 opponent Friday skyrockets them to No. 8 in nation

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that the Grand Canyon University Club Baseball team is ranked 8th in the latest National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) Division I Regular Season Poll. The jump from the No. 18 national ranking the Lopes held in the last poll two weeks ago is easily the largest leap of any team in the new poll, and the Lopes accomplished it in only their second appearance of the season in the rankings.
GCU impressed the national pollsters by sweeping the team ranked 7th in the last poll, Colorado State University, by scores of 7-1 and 8-7 last Friday at Coronado High School in Scottsdale. The Lopes have now won 10 of the 11 games they’ve played against NCBA competition this season, and are in first place in the NCBA’s Southern Pacific South Conference with a 5-1 mark.
The Lopes now take a break from NCBA play for two more weeks, and will play road games against a pair of community colleges, Glendale (next Tuesday) and Chandler-Gilbert (April 4) in the interim. They’ll return to conference play on April 7 and 8 when they host the University of San Diego in a three-game series at Papago Park (625 North Galvin Parkway in east Phoenix). First pitch that weekend for the Saturday doubleheader is noon, and Sunday’s single game starts at 9 am. Admission is FREE.
The entire NCBA DI Rankings are listed below:
