Lopes’ inactive schedule during last two weeks doesn’t hurt national standing

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that for the second straight time, the Grand Canyon University Club Baseball team is ranked 8th in the latest National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) Division I Poll released earlier today. It’s also the Lopes’ second week as part of the NCBA Top 10 this season after leaping ten spots from their No. 18 national ranking four weeks ago. It’s the highest national ranking the Lopes have enjoyed since joining the NCBA three years ago.
The Lopes have to feel fortunate that their national standing hasn’t changed, since after sweeping a home doubleheader over then-7th-ranked Colorado State University on March 16, the team has been idle – even having a non-conference matchup with Chandler-Gilbert Community College cancelled earlier this week. However, that will change this coming weekend as the Lopes – who’ve won 10 of the 11 games they’ve played against NCBA competition this season – will return to conference play at home. They’ll host the University of San Diego in a key three-game series this Saturday and Sunday, April 7 and 8 at Papago Park (625 North Galvin Parkway in east Phoenix). First pitch for the Saturday doubleheader is noon, and Sunday’s single game starts at 9 am. Admission is FREE.
The entire NCBA Rankings are listed below:
|Rank||Team||Total Pts||Prev Rank|
|19||Slippery Rock (PA)||69||NR|
