Lopes maintain No. 5 spot in NCBA DI Poll for 2nd straight time

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that for the second straight time, the Grand Canyon University Club Baseball team is ranked 5th in the latest National Club Baseball Association (NCBA) Division I Poll. The Lopes maintained the top-5 national ranking after achieving it for the first time in their three-year history in the NCBA two weeks ago. The Lopes have now been a part of the NCBA Top 10 four times this season, and this week is the 5th time that the Lopes have been in the national poll in 2018.
The top-5 national ranking isn’t the only history-making event that the Lopes have enjoyed over the last two weeks. After getting nosed out of the postseason last year by losing their final regular season series, the Lopes rectified that this season, taking two of three games from Arizona State University in their regular season finale March 21 and 22 at Brazell Stadium on the GCU campus to clinch their first-ever NCBA Southern Pacific (SoPac) South Conference title. That also clinched a berth for GCU in the NCBA SoPac Regional Playoffs May 11-13 in Lancaster, California.
The Lopes will join the champions of the other two SoPac Conferences, West Champion (and fellow top-5 power) California Polytechnic State University and North Champion California State University-Chico (unranked) along with an at-large team that will be determined at the conclusion of this weekend’s final regular season action at the three-day, double-elimination tournament. The Lopes will find out this weekend their seeding, their first-round opponent, and whether they will play their first game of the tournament at noon or 3 pm on Friday, May 11th.
