On a team with 22 student-athletes, two players stood out.
Two Grand Canyon University’s Women’s Ice Hockey players were selected as the 2019-20 Academic All Americans for the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) Women’s Division I, which honored top scholars in the country.
Lopes’ forward Tuesday Chavez and defenseman Kiana Price were recognized as All-Academic for their efforts in the classroom. To qualify, a student-athlete must be at least a junior and have a cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher.
Chavez and Price were acknowledged for their notable efforts in the classroom, while also maintaining major leadership roles for the “athlete” side of the student-athlete title.
Chavez has been with the Lopes for three years, and was a part of GCU’s first class of seniors, while Price just concluded her second year under Lopes’ Head Coach Natalie Rossi.
“Both Tuesday and Kiana work really hard off the ice in school to make sure they are the best student-athletes they can be,” said Rossi. “They both take school very seriously and give it their all. We are proud of their hard work to be the best they can be.”
