Get Stronger at CrossFit Club

The GCU CrossFit Club is the perfect place to become stronger and gain access to great resources while taking part in a unique and supportive community. The program’s mission is to foster an encouraging environment in which students of all fitness levels and backgrounds can come together to glorify God in a competitive and fun atmosphere.

As a member of GCU CrossFit, you will take part in two exclusive team workouts per week on campus, with certified coaches available during off-site gym hours. Additionally, you will have access to the weight rooms at the Lopes Performance Center and the brand-new Canyon Activity Center. In addition to on-campus resources, the club will also work out at a local CrossFit Gym each week. As part of GCU CrossFit, all team members will have opportunities to use their training and engage in competitions at and away from GCU, and will have the chance to compete in the national CrossFit Open to track their progress for the season, and possibly compete for regional and national titles.

Carter Senechal is entering his second year as president and head coach for the Grand Canyon University Co-ed CrossFit Club.

Senechal is a CrossFit veteran, as he has been involved in the sport for about six years. Over his career, Senechal’s collected honors and accolades in numerous competitions, including placing third in the CrossFit Liftoff and USAW Weightlifting Junior Nationals Qualifier in 2017.

GCU CrossFit has had Senechals involved since its inception, since Carter’s brother, Grant, started the program, and coached the Lopes for four years, with Carter taking the reins after Grant’s graduation. In his first year, Senechal improved the club by expanding the reach to students on campus. He also established a home gym for the Lopes through a partnership with CrossFit Uru.

Senechal is a senior at GCU, and set to earn his bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering in April 2021. He also has a great passion for his Christian faith, distance running and outer space. After he graduates, Senechal will enter into satellite engineering for Northrop Grumman – a top aerospace and defense company based in Falls Church, Virginia.
