Thanksgiving Week inactivity doesn’t hurt Lopes in newest ACHA West Poll

GCU Club Sports is proud to announce that for the third straight week, the Grand Canyon University Men’s Ice Hockey Division II team is ranked 10th in the American Collegiate Hockey Association (ACHA) West Poll. It’s not only the third straight week this season that the Lopes are in the top 10; it’s the first time they’ve been 10th or better in any poll in their two-year history. The Lopes weren’t hurt in the poll by their inactivity (they were idle throughout the week of Thanksgiving), since every other team in the ACHA West Top 20 took the week off as well. The Lopes have posted victories over five nationally ranked teams: No. 8 Weber State, No. 11 Brigham Young University, No. 13 Arizona State, No. 15 Colorado State, and 19th-ranked Long Beach State.
The Lopes will get back into action this coming weekend with two more chances to knock off a ranked opponent when 8th-ranked Weber State comes to Phoenix to battle the Lopes in a two-game series. The Lopes and Wildcats will play at 6:30 pm Saturday night before finishing the two-game set at 1:30 pm on Sunday afternoon. Both games will be played at GCU’s home ice, AZ Ice Peoria and admission is FREE.
