GCU Running Club Coach Promotes Health and Fitness

The Grand Canyon University running club is a great outlet for students to continue their passion for running and to set new fitness and health goals.

Dr. Kimberly Sims is the head coach of the GCU running club and is a long time runner herself. She ran in high school and college, and enjoys running with the club team.

Coach Sims sees running as more than just a club sport but a life mission. “A goal of mine as a coach is to promote health and fitness to youth,” Sims said. “I hope to communicate that with the GCU running club athletes that are in leadership roles to promote health and fitness to our team, the GCU student body and the surrounding community.”

“She leads by example,” said senior running club member Andi Bergman. “She makes sure we are eating right and keeping each other accountable.”

“Coach Sims is really into being healthy and fit herself, so it’s something she discusses with us a lot,” said junior running club member Kaley Ault. “She is a very busy person, but she still makes health and fitness a priority in her life. I hope I can continue racing as long as she has even after starting a career and family.”

“I look forward to this season to help the new and returning students reach their personal health and fitness goals,” said Sims. “I am really excited for the P.F. Changs 5k and 10k run coming up this season. I [want] to do the half marathon and get some of my athletes to run it with me.”

The GCU running club season will be filled with training, races and students reaching their own fitness and health goals.
